7Types of Fashion Styles for Men

Men’s fashion has gone through a lot of changes throughout history. Once, it was pretty common for men to wear loincloths and not much else. At another time in history, men wore tights. Fashion evolves over time as new styles become popular and new clothing technologies are made available. How many different types of fashion styles for men have you worn…and which ones will you want to try wearing in the future?

Below is an epic list of men’s styles with a photo example of each showcasing nice outfits for guys for each respective style.

1. Artsy

The artsy look is all about being a little unique, thinking outside the box. This style is used to make a statement, tell the world a little something about who you are. This is a bold, colorful, vibrant style. Experiment and get creative. The artsy style is all about personal self-expression, so use your style to let your inner light shine.

2.Athleisure

The athleisure look is everywhere. This is definitely one of the trendiest styles you can possibly wear. All the hottest designers and most fashion-forward celebrities have embraced the athleisure look, which is all about wearing athletic clothing.

What you need

This is the clothing you’d wear to go exercise, though instead of exercising you’re showing off your style. Tracksuits, sweat pants, sneakers, T-shirts, tank tops…well, you know what athletic clothing looks like!

Get stylish

Add some accessories to make your athleisure truly fashionable. A baseball cap and a sports watch will truly complete this look.

3.Beach bum

The beach bum look is very simple. It’s sort of a departure from style because it’s a look that’s all about comfort rather than looks. Bright, bold prints like Hawaiian shirt designs, neon colors, and beachy motifs are just right. Shorts, button-up shirts, tank tops, and sandals will give you a beach bum look every time.

Don’t forget your sunglasses, waterproof watch and general laid-back attitude.

4.Beatnik

The beatniks were the rebellious young thinkers of the 1950s. Part of the Beat Generation, beatniks followed writers like Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, dressed in black clothing and used style to show their anti-establishment values. This is an iconic look that was once the height of style. Now, the beatnik look is a classic.

Get the look

The beatniks weren’t just rebellious youth, they were intellectuals. They talked about poetry and literature and they rejected the men’s fashion norms of the day by dressing in plain, form-fitting black clothing. Turtlenecks, skinny capri pants and straight-leg  pants, all in black, help define this style. To really get the look, add a goatee and an attitude that you are deeply, deeply in thought.

5.Biker

Henry Winkler as the Fonz. John Travolta as Danny Zucco. James Dean as…well, James Dean. The biker look is an iconic part of men’s fashion that instantly tells the world you’re a bit of a bad boy. And it seems to pretty much drive women wild. Luckily, it doesn’t take a lot of pieces to create a good-looking biker style. Just remember the essential accessory: a heart of gold hidden by that bad boy persona.

What you need

The essential item for any biker wardrobe is, of course, the leather jacket. The classic biker jacket is usually waist-length and often has many zippers on them to add extra coolness. Gentleman’s Journal recommends a full-grain leather jacket.

Jeans and leather pants are the bottoms of choice for many biker-style wearers. Of course, you’ll need classic motorcycle boots. Channel your inner James Dean and finish the look with a standard white T, or wear a graphic T to express your personality.

6.Black tie

Fancy evening events may have a black tie dress code. This is a fashion style reserved for fancy events and you’ll usually see it at important ceremonies, weddings, big anniversary parties and other gala events. This is a very specific dress code and it only takes one mistake to appear overdressed or underdressed at any black tie event.

What you need

A jacket with silk lapels is a must for black-tie attire. The jacket may have a notched lapel, a shawl lapel, or a peak lapel, so long as the lapels are silk. Wear the jacket with tuxedo pants and a tie. Any tie will do, from a standard necktie to a bowtie to an ascot. You can wear a dress shirt or a tuxedo shirt.

A black tie does not have to be black. You can actually wear a jacket ad pants in any color and the tie itself can be in any color, too, according to GQ.

Get the style

Finish your black tie look with a dress watch, cufflinks and a pocket square to set off the ensemble. Style your hair to make it look neat.

7.Bohemian

The bohemian look, or boho, is all about being a little bit outside the box. This style is a little bit quirky and so are you…and that’s okay.

What you need

Boho style is sort of artistic and free-flowing. Bold colors and patterns are a strong feature of this fashion style. Light-colored ripped blue jeans and light-colored slacks, especially pleated trousers, are often seen in the boho look. Colorful button-down shirts and loose V-neck T-shirts are a perfect match. Wear loafers and low-cut shoes without socks and when you’re feeling bold, add a hat with a floppy brim to complete your bohemian style.
